On the 19th of februari at the end of the day, there were 6 orca's nearby Ribeiras.

At the 5 the of January 2009 a rare event was sighted by researchers of Nova Atlantis: A Northern Right whale was passing by! The animal was identified by researchers of the University of the Azores, and matched with the whale 3270 of the Northern Right whale Catalogue, of the New England Aquarium. This whale was last seen in the Bay of Fundy at 24 September 2008. This is the first confirmed sighting of a Northern Right whale since 1888 in the Azores!

DNA research

During 2009 we will start gathering DNA samples of highly resighted Risso’s dolphins in order to study kinships between stable pods. This project is licensed by the Department of Ambiente at Faial island.
